This means more than a thousand million people living in detrimental health conditions in urban slums, and a bigger number in rural precarious settlements. Homeless people were estimated in more than a hundred million, and there were more than thirty five million of displaced and refugees in ACNUR camps. Talking about Right to Habitat is even more relevant these days, since the \u201chousing hunger\u201d grows each year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Nevertheless, this right is not just about roof tenure, nor about dwelling property, but a huge concept that includes healthy housing, infrastructures, and environment so that people can develop their social, cultural and economic activities in peaceful and dignified conditions. Thus, Right to Habitat covers varied aspects including equal right for everyone to the city and participation in decision making processes, right to land and territory, accessibility and mobility, environmental sustainability or collective urban memory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On the occasion of the World Habitat Day, we organised an online meeting with volunteers and technicians from Alianza por la Solidaridad and Arquitectos Sin Fronteras Espa\u00f1a. The conversation meant an initial contact with members of ASF organization, which is very experienced in the defense of Right to Habitat. We could share with them some practices related to the Infrastructure area in the Colombian Pacific, and collect their opinions. Some of the topics that were briefly addressed were: involvement of local communities in the construction process, the debate about autochthonous and sustainable materials opposite to those associated with \u201cprogress\u201d, or the role of volunteers in solidarity missions in other regions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">We concluded the chat reasserting our engagement with the right of every person to dignified housing and habitat. And after a valuable day of reflection it\u2019s time to go back to action!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Written by Carlos Puentes<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Derecho al H\u00e1bitat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">El primer lunes de octubre celebramos el d\u00eda mundial del H\u00e1bitat reconocido por Naciones Unidas desde hace casi tres d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Seg\u00fan el c\u00e1lculo optimista que hac\u00eda ONU-H\u00e1bitat a principios de siglo, la poblaci\u00f3n (sobre)viviendo en \u00e1reas urbanas hiperdegradadas constitu\u00eda un tercio de la poblaci\u00f3n urbana mundial, esto es, m\u00e1s de mil millones de personas viviendo en condiciones lesivas para su salud en tugurios urbanos, y un n\u00famero mayor en asentamientos precarios rurales. Las personas sin domicilio conocido se estimaban en m\u00e1s de 100 millones y los desplazados y refugiados en campamentos del ACNUR eran m\u00e1s de 35 millones. Hablar del Derecho al H\u00e1bitat es hoy en d\u00eda m\u00e1s pertinente si cabe que entonces, pues el \u201chambre de vivienda\u201d cree cada a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sin embargo, este derecho no se refiere exclusivamente a la tenencia de un techo, mucho menos aun a la propiedad de una vivienda. Es un concepto amplio que incluye la vivienda,\u00a0 infraestructuras y medio saludables en los que las personas puedan desarrollar en condiciones de paz y dignidad sus actividades sociales, culturales y econ\u00f3micas. As\u00ed, el Derecho al H\u00e1bitat abarca aspectos variados como el derecho igual de todas y todas a la ciudad y la participaci\u00f3n en las decisiones que la afectan, el derecho a la tierra y el territorio, la accesibilidad y la movilidad, la sostenibilidad medioambiental o la memoria urbana colectiva.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Con motivo del D\u00eda Mundial del h\u00e1bitat se organiz\u00f3 un conversatorio virtual de voluntario\/as y t\u00e9cnico\/as de Alianza por la Solidaridad y de Arquitectos Sin Fronteras Espa\u00f1a. El encuentro sirvi\u00f3 como toma de contacto con miembros de esta organizaci\u00f3n con largo recorrido en la defensa derecho al h\u00e1bitat, con quienes pudimos compartir algunas pr\u00e1cticas del \u00e1rea de Infraestructuras en Pac\u00edfico colombiano y recoger sus opiniones. Algunos de los temas tratados brevemente fueron la participaci\u00f3n de las comunidades en los procesos de construcci\u00f3n de ambas organizaciones, el debate entre los materiales aut\u00f3ctonos y sostenibles frente a otros materiales \u201cdel progreso\u00bb, o el papel de los voluntarios en misiones de solidaridad con otras regiones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Concluimos la reuni\u00f3n reafirmando nuestro compromiso con el derecho de todos y todas a una vivienda y un h\u00e1bitat dignos.
