EU Aid Volunteers Initiative Commissioning launched in 2014 by the European Commission will incorporate some 4,000 volunteers over the next six years to support the work on the field of several European NGO working in humanitarian crisis contexts. The Spanish NGO Alianza por la Solidaridad, the German AWO and the Italian GVC, participated in one of the pilot experiences of this ambitious international volunteering initiative that aims to become a European benchmark showing that European solidarity is still an increasing value.<\/p>\n
Generosity , dedication, participation , citizen empowerment , respect for human rights , will to transform unfair realities … all this and much more is behind the huge and unforgettable learning experiences that 23 volunteers who travelled to Burkina Faso , Colombia , Haiti , Lebanon , Nicaragua and Palestine, have lived.<\/p>\n

This photographic exhibition aims to get closer to some of the experiences that the volunteer team has lived during a period of six months. These experiences have helped them understand the complexity of the development process and the reality of people displaced by the conflict in Colombia, or the extreme situation that the population in the Gaza Strip is facing everyday .<\/p>\n

Haiti is the poorest country in America and one of the world poorest country: more than half of the population suffers multidimensional poverty that affects education as well as health and living standards. Deforestation, unemployment, corruption, lack of infrastructure, violence against women or political instability are added to the high incidence of hurricanes and cyclones, completing a complex cycle of poverty and vulnerability.<\/p>\n
