Networking\u00a0is crucial in order for the different NGOs and development agencies working together in the state of Odisha to better coordinate and effectively achieve its poverty reduction goals as well as to achieve MDGs.

\nYesterday we attended the \u201cConsultation on strengthening of NGO network working in the field of Health, Water and Sanitation Sector\u201d, held in the city of Bhubaneswar and organized by\u00a0Practical Action\u00a0(working in rural and urban slums under the EU funded project \u201cCommunity Governance in Infrastructure Services\u201d) and\u00a0Population Foundation of India\u00a0(currently giving assistance to State Government and Uban Local Bodies through the program \u201cHealth of the Urban Poor-HUP\u201d).
\n\u00a0
\nThe main\u00a0objective\u00a0of this consultation was to\u00a0understand the various interventions, activities and issues\u00a0of the different existing networks, and to set the basis for the\u00a0development of a common plan of action\u00a0to strengthen the network in a consistent and long-term way. Representatives of the Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation and different NGOs, INGOs, UN Agencies and related networks contributed to the discussion.
\n\u00a0
\nAmong the\u00a0issues\u00a0arising during the session we would highlight: (i) the common perception of lack of coordination; (ii) the importance of partnerships between policy makers, development implementers and civil society; and (iii) the need to pay equal attention to the rural and urban poor. It was also discussed how health goes hand in hand with water management, education and environment protection, therefore being crucial: (i) a holistic approach; (ii) a solid urban management and planning slum-free cities oriented; and (iii) an accountability-to-beneficiaries approach.

\nSome major further steps that came out from the consultations were:

\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0share best practices
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0sectoral discussions and choose a clear leader for the initiative
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0carry out various consultations throughout the State

El desarrollo de redes de trabajo es crucial para las diferentes ONGs y agencias de desarrollo que trabajan actualmente en el estado de Odisha de cara a una mejor coordinaci\u00f3n y consecuci\u00f3n de sus objetivos de reducci\u00f3n de pobreza, as\u00ed como el cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio.<\/p>\n
Ayer estuvimos presentes en la \u00abConsulta sobre el refuerzo de la red de ONGs trabajando actualmente en el sector de la Salud, Agua y Saneamiento\u00bb, celebrada en la ciudad de Bhubaneswar y organizada por Practical Action (que trabaja en suburbios tanto rurales como urbanos bajo el proyecto europeo \u00abCommunity Governance in Infrastructure Services\u00bb) y Population Foundation of India (que da apoyo a los gobiernos estatal y local a trav\u00e9s de programa \u201cHealth of the Urban Poor-HUP\u201d).

\nEl principal objetivo de esta consulta era comprender las intervenciones y actividades de las diferentes redes operando en el sector, identificar los puntos d\u00e9biles y sentar las bases para el desarrollo de un plan de acci\u00f3n com\u00fan para el refuerzo la red de una forma consistente y duradera. Tomaron parte en la discusi\u00f3n representantes de la Corporaci\u00f3n Municipal de Bhubaneswar, ONGs, IONGs, agencias de Naciones Unidas y redes del sector.
\n\u00a0
\nEntre los temas que surgieron durante la sesi\u00f3n destacamos: (i) la percepci\u00f3n generalizada de falta de coordinaci\u00f3n; (ii) la importancia de la colaboraci\u00f3n entre pol\u00edticos, agencias de desarrollo y sociedad civil; y (iii) la necesidad de prestarle igual atenci\u00f3n a los grupos m\u00e1s desfavorecidos tanto en zonas rurales como urbanas. Tambi\u00e9n se discuti\u00f3 sobre el v\u00ednculo indiscutible entre la salud y la gesti\u00f3n del agua, la educaci\u00f3n y la protecci\u00f3n ambiental, siendo por lo tanto cruciales: (i) abordar el tema de forma hol\u00edstica; (ii) llevar a cabo una s\u00f3lida gesti\u00f3n y planificaci\u00f3n urbana orientada hacia la eliminaci\u00f3n de suburbios; y (iii) rendir cuentas no solo a los donantes sino principalmente a los beneficiarios de los proyectos.<\/p>\n
